While doctors say that the antibiotics and hospital visit are precautionary measures to allow Fiorina to return to the campaign trail as quickly as possible, this sidelining comes at a time when the Republican was gaining ground on incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Fiorina canceled events Tuesday in Riverside and Coachella, while Boxer appeared with the First Lady in Los Angeles, and President Obama held a rally at the University of Southern California in support of the Democrat.
