John O'Donoghue, the Speaker of the Irish Parliament, who left his position this week (October 13) following expense claim revelations, including euros 21,000 in car hire costs, has been offered a role at a car hire price comparison company.

John O'Donoghue, the Speaker of the Irish Parliament, who left his position this week (October 13) following expense claim revelations, including euros 21,000 in car hire costs, has been offered a role at a car hire price comparison company.

BestCarHire.co.uk has offered him a position in its pricing department, a job the company says would show Mr O'Donoghue the best way to compare car hire and reduce his annual costs.

A spokesperson for BestCarHire.co.uk said: "While he's in between jobs, we'd like to offer Mr O'Donoghue a role in our pricing department where he can see how cheap car hire can be - it would be a modest salary, but we do offer generous expense allowances and staff discounts on car hire."

Mr O'Donoghue resigned last week and left his position as Ceann Comhairle - Speaker - of the Irish Parliament on October 13 after revelations about his expense claims which included euros 21,000 for car hire costs during overseas trips in 2006 and 2007.
