Washington Comes to a Standstill
Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America in Washington, D.C. January 20, 2009.
RICHMOND, VA, January 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On January 20th, 2009, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. A record number of nearly 2 million spectators came out in the freezing 22 degree temperature to take part in the historic event, stretching a 2-mile span from the Capitol to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
While the inauguration was an exciting and symbolic time for many, others in the District of Colombia found it very difficult or impossible to get to their jobs and carry out their day because of the massive amount of people that had entered the city. Despite the capital's best efforts to ensure smooth transportation, city streets came to a standstill and the subway system ran behind schedule because of the massive crowds, often times causing the metro system to come to a complete halt.
Clients of Wynne Residential in the D.C. area remained largely unaffected by the delays and were for the most part able to go about their day in a normal fashion. This was due not only to Wynne's attention to finding their clients housing in specific locations close to where they need to be, but also because of Wynne's dedicated staff notifying and preparing clients for the event.
"We knew the event was going to be big, and we wanted to make sure all our clients in the area were going to be prepared," said Kristen Read, Sales Coordinator at Wynne Residential. "We want our clients to be as comfortable and as functional as possible while staying with us, and if that means helping them find alternate routes to their location, we're more than happy to help."
While Wynne was helping their business clients in the city, they also helped inaugural spectators find temporary housing for the event. "Because of the enormity of the event," Read goes on to say, "we wanted to offer our properties to those who wanted to participate but could not find a temporary place to stay anywhere else."
